Photos of Wild Rats at Alexandra Park in Hastings by Dean Thorpe.

I spotted these cute wild rats at Alexandra Park in Hastings, they were very friendly, but took their time before trusting me and coming right up to me. I did get some funny looks laying on the floor with rats running round me, lots of people photograph the Squirrels, but most don't seem to like the cute Rats.

Warning: Animals can bite, I have even had a few nasty rat bites from my pet ones, so do be careful. The Squirrels are happy to eat from your hand and have never bitten me (yet!), but although I did let the rats come right up to me and sniff my hands, I did not let them feed from them. Most animals are friendly if you are nice to them, so don't try to grab a cute wild animal and give it a hug or you might get a nasty surprise!!!

Location at Alexandra Park: I spotted these near the big lake by the speed camera, but I have seen them in other parks of the park, always near water.

Alexandra Park in Hastings is a great place for nature photographers like me, there are always animals such as Squirrels, Rats, Birds, Dragonflies and so much more. This is my personal favourite wild Rat photo I took that day, I love the way its standing up and looking at me through the twigs to see if I had any snacks to eat This is my personal favourite wild Rat photo I took that day, I love the way its standing up and looking at me through the twigs to see if I had any snacks to eat
Out in the open, but still keeping an eye open for the many predators that lurk round every corner, one of the worst ones for them are the many dogs at the park. Is it safe to come out now? A lot of the dogs are under control and behave, but some are not and often attack Squirrels, Rats and any other small animals there. Is it safe to come out now? I smell food! Must be something nice for a rats lunch around here. They really love the peanuts I took with me, but did not like the croissants we had for our lunch I smell food! Yippee, found a peanut! I had thrown loads around the place, so it was not hard for the rats to find them, the hardest bit was trying not to attract the Pidgeons instead. Yippee, found a peanut! Thanks for the nuts! A happy rat now its found a supply of free food. I bet not many people feed the rats and they only get what the Squirrels and Pidgeons miss. Thanks for the nuts! The most wild rats I spotted in Alexadra Park at any one time was three, but I only managed to fit these two searching for my peanuts in this photograph. The wild rats in Alexandra Park seemed very friendly, in fact they seemed nicer and less scary than some of the other Hastings residents I have met over the years! This is one of the times the wild rats came right up to me, its very easy to scare them, so if you do want to see one then be very quiet and sit very still and you might. I hope everybody enjoys the pictures and that I have not put anybody off going to Alexandra Park!
