VRQ Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health

Answer to Question 1

All of the signs I have included could also be other things, but they are all indicators that further investigation may be needed. Common sense is important, some people are fine with rude jokes, flirting etc. but others are not. I do think it is better to be too careful, than not careful enough.

Somebody unusually nervous around somebody

Secretive behaviour

Not wanting to be alone with somebody

Loss of confidence / self esteem

Sexual

Keeping themselves covered up, even when very hot

Racist comments

Racist jokes

Verbal or emotional

Abusive / hurtful comments against the persons sex, sexuality, colour, culture, disabilities, lifestyle etc

Extreme changes of mood from their normal

Financial

Unexplained exchanges of money

Unexplained or badly explained gifts being given, especially in a secretive manner

Somebody seeming to have a lot less money than usual

Answer to Question 2

First place would be your supervisor, unless of course they are involved. If that's the case then you would have to go to their supervisor. If there is nobody higher to go to, then you must contact an outside organisation such as the Police.

Answer to Question 3

Depending on the severity:

Minor complaint

An investigation would be started, both parties would be spoken to in a discreet way to try to find out the full situation. Depending on the result either the matter would be dropped, a verbal warning could be given or the investigation could be continued to the next level. If the matter was dropped then monitoring the situation would still be a good idea.

Medium complaint

Investigation would take place, both parties, plus any witnesses would be talked to. Depending on the result either the matter would be dropped, a verbal or written warning could be given or the investigation could be continued to the next level. Even if the matter was dropped then very close monitoring the situation would still be a good idea.

Major complaint

After checking the information, the Police may be called, staff may be sacked or asked to resign
