STR / Support Time Recovery Training course

VRQ Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health

Answer to Question 1

We have a number of service users who also have physical health problems

We make sure that all meeting are held at locations that are disabled friendly and that all group outings are planned to be at places that are also as disabled friendly as possible

Answer to Question 2

Our members have a mixture of psychological and emotional needs

In our group meetings we give each other support, plus we offer 1 to 1 support for people who need it and provide signposting to people who need more help than we can provide

Answer to Question 3

Many of our members have problems that effect their social skills and leave them feeling socially excluded

Our group is a social support one and so taking care of people's social needs is very important to us. We try to help all our members to socialise with each other, both at the meeting and outside the group too. We have regular group outings to help our members to get out and see things and feel included

Answer to Question 4

We have members who do belong to different faiths

Although we do not actively provide any spiritual help we are happy to signpost people to help if they request it and we are also careful to make sure outing and activities are suitable for all members

Answer to Question 5

Our members are from a variety of cultures and as such have different cultural needs

As with the spiritual needs we do not actively provide things for specific cultures, we just try our best to include everybody and make sure that nobody feels left out.

Please note: the instructions did say "An example of an identified need for a specific person", but I have made mine more general. The reason for this is that the groups I work with are small and I know some members are concerned about confidentiality and so I am not willing to be more specific for this piece of work
