I have now finished training to become an STR (Support Time Recovery) Worker. For those of you who do not know what an STR worker is, its a person who as the name suggests will provide Support, give Time to the service user, and assist in their Recovery.

As an STR worker I may go with a service user to help with shopping, paying bills, applying for benefits etc. but only to help the service user gain the confidence to be able to do the things themselves, I would not be going off doing those things for them. STR workers work as part of a team which provides mental health services and focuses directly on the needs of service users, meeting the needs of service users, respecting the rights of service users to lead as ordinary lives as possible. An STR worker can work with service users to help them get back into everyday living in the community if that is what they want and to broaden their own support network. The main thing is to help people to do things for themselves and to become as independent as possible.

The STR worker course is actually made up of a number of courses, the main one of which is the Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Work. Here is some of the work I have done:

Please do NOT copy my answers and use them as your own, I have just put them here to give you ideas for any parts you may be stuck on.
