Free Photographic services for charities and good causes.

If you are part of a charity or good cause and having a fund raising event and you would like to have an official photographer to capture the event, then I would like to offer my free photographic services. If you want to see samples of my photography you can look at the selection on this site or click on Aspex Photography (at the top of the page) and view thousands of my photos.

You might think I am mad for providing these photographic services for free and you might be right! lol

The reason I do this is that at the moment due to health problems I cannot do enough work to actually make any money, so I would rather do it for free to spread goodwill and help out people, such as charities or good causes who may not have been able to afford to record their events. I am not trying to take paid work away from other photographers and have a lot of respect for most of them, I am just providing a service to those who cannot afford to get complete coverage of their fund raising event any other way.

Please note: I only offer this free service for charities etc. and I don't do a paid service, so if you want to hire a photographer for a wedding, party, birthday or something else like that then I am sorry, but you need to contact somebody else.

The good bits

I don't charge anything for my time.

I can supply copies of the photos at virtually any size you want and I only charge what it costs me, I make no profit, that means I can supply high quality photos of your fund raising event from only about 10p per photo!

I can host the photos on my website for free so you can show your charity event off to the world, you can also use the photos for your own website (as long as I get credit) and I will put links on my website to yours (if you have one).

Printed contact sheets of the photos can also be provided for you to show people without internet access.

Unlike virtually any place I know, I am happy to supply a CD with all the photos on, also at cost! That way you can get more prints of the photos done at any time without having to come running to me every time (a big help to me and you!).

I am photographer friendly! That may sound strange, but I have learnt from experience that quite a few "official photographers" don't like "amateurs" taking pictures at "their" events. It makes no difference to me, no photographer can be everywhere at once and the more people taking pictures, the better your event will be covered. That also goes for professionals, some events do have photographers from local papers coming to take a few photos and I am always happy to work along side them and not get in their way.

I am a trained and very experienced photographer, winner of many photographic competitions.

If you want serious posed photos then I can do that, but I normally prefer to take natural photos of people enjoying the event or I can do a mixture of the two.

I use a good quality digital camera and always take enough memory cards and batteries to take over 1,000 high quality photos, more than enough for most events.

I will stay for the whole event, I won't just pop in, take a few photos and vanish.

The bad bits

This service is only for charities and things I class as good causes, if you are not sure then ask me. The main types of charities I normally support are children's, mental health, disabled, animal and Deaf (I have passed level one BSL / British Sign Language) ones.

I am disabled (on crutches), so I must be allowed short breaks when I need them, but I will make sure I am there for all the most important bits.

If its a local event (I am in Battle, East Sussex) then there will be no charge at all, if its more than about 10 miles away then please can I just ask for my travel expenses to be covered, I promise that you will get your moneys worth! I am happy to travel up to about 50 miles each way if I am driving, but would travel further by train or coach if it was a very special event.

I do work for a number of charities already and have a family to take care of, so I am not always available, but the more notice you can give me, the more chance I can do it.

For most events this will make no difference, but for events like sponsored walks / runs that are spread over a long distance, I would photograph the start, drive to the middle and photograph there, then drive to the end and get the finishers. This is because I am unable to walk far with the people.

All my work at this time is on a voluntary basis, I do no paid work at all, so if you are a business requiring an official photographer for a business event, then I am sorry, but it would be a no.

I am just one person living at home with his family, so we do not have visitors here, but I am willing to come and talk to you if you need that.

My preferred method of communication is email, that way we both have a copy of what your needs are and what I am willing to provide, plus if you or I come up with an idea at midnight it can be sent straight away, where phone calls at that time of night would get rude replies!

Depending on my health at the time I may need my wife (my official carer) and daughter to come with me, if they do then they both often take photos, which is a bonus for you and all I ask is that none of us have to pay to get in to the event.

These "terms" may sound a bit strange, but I have had a couple of bad experiences in the past and I think its better to be upfront about these things. One charity I worked for (non photographic work), for a short while (I quit) I had to travel a long way to get to (at my expense), charged me for every drink etc. and then tried to start charging me a membership fee for the days I worked there! The work was voluntary, so I got paid nothing, but it was costing me a fortune to help them! Basically I am really happy to give up my time for free to help people, I just don't like it when they take the piss! Most of the charities I work for now are much better and always treat me with a lot of respect.
