Photos of our holiday to Paphos in Cyprus, including the
Tombs of the Kings. There were so many really interesting
things to photograph and explore in Cyprus.
These are old photos of mine from our visit to Cyprus a few
years back, my digital camera was not as good as the one I
have now and I did not understand as much about composition
etc. but I still think there are some nice photos of Cyprus
here. The descriptions were also written a long time after
our Cyprus holiday, so some of my descriptions may be wrong,
if I have labelled anything incorrectly then I would be very
happy to receive corrections.

This was the first photo I took after we arrived in on
holiday to Paphos in Cyprus and after a rough night and
the bad flight the Kefalonitis Hotel Apartments swimming
pool looked very inviting, even at sunrise!
While Yolanda was at the hotel resting I went out to explore
Paphos and walked the short 500 meters to the beach and even
had a quick paddle while taking in my first ever view of the
beautiful Mediterranean from Cyprus.
Looking across the bay towards Paphos lighthouse. Apart from
a couple of local fishermen the area was deserted, so
peaceful and relaxing. Cyprus had such a different feel to
it than the UK.
The view out across the Mediterranean Sea while paddling, the
Paphos water was pretty cold at that time of day, but still
felt really nice after the flight to Cyprus and coach journey
to get to the Kefalonitis Hotel.
This is Yolanda relaxing on the sea wall at Kato Paphos port
in her Mickey Mouse t-shirt, our first morning was out
exploring and we found the most important thing, really nice
toasted cheese sandwiches! Cyprus really does have
everything!
Looking away from the Medieval Castle of Paphos side of Kato
Paphos port, this area was less than a miles walk from the
hotel and a place we spent a lot of time at during our
Cyprus holiday.
Many small fishing boats and pleasure cruises were based at
Kato Paphos port, we did go on a boat ride on a glass
bottomed boat, I did not get any good photos of fish, but
the views of Cyprus were great.
Along the side of Kato Paphos port there were many shops and
restaurants selling traditional Cyprus food and English food
too, but these ones were mostly very friendly and did not
try the hard sell, unlike some places we have been on
holiday!
More fishing boats based at Kato Paphos port with the
Medieval Castle of Paphos in the background, despite being
very early in the year the weather in Paphos was still great
and we had blue skies for most of the holiday.
Our little Joanne outside a few of the restaurants in Paphos,
if you know Joanne then you can tell that this photograph
was a few years back as she has grown up a bit since our
Cyprus holiday!
In Cyprus the Medieval Castle of Paphos is not very big, but
still dominates the skyline of most photos of taken at Kato
Paphos port and has a very long and interesting history.
Another photo of Joanne, this time outside one of the
restaurants around the Kato Paphos port. The water was
beautiful and very inviting, it made me want to go and
dive in.
A selection of boats moored in the harbour, everything from
fishing boats catching fish for the local restaurants to
pleasure cruise boats doing incredible scenic trips around
the coast.
A photo of more boats moored in the harbour with the
beautiful backdrop of the Medieval Castle of Paphos behind
them and barely a cloud in the clear bright blue Cyprus sky.
A perspective photo along the pier out to some of the boats
at Kato Paphos port, the buildings along the background are
mostly restaurants and gift shops selling Cyprus souvenirs.
Final photograph of Kato Paphos port in Cyprus for a while,
this photo is Yolanda enjoying the scenery with the Medieval
Castle of Paphos and more fishing boats in the background.
A photograph of one of the churches we spotted around Paphos,
the Cypriot architecture is very different from the churches
I have photographed here in the UK. The churches in Cyprus
were mostly light colours.
This photo was taken not far from the Kefalonitis hotel in
Paphos and shows one of the roads outside the town, you need
good suspension as the roads in Cyprus were very bumpy and
got worse the further out of town we went.
It was really interesting to explore Saranta Kolones and try
to imagine how Paphos used to look so many years ago, very
different from the modern Cypriot architecture you can see
most places around Cyprus.
A photo of the Saranta Kolones Archaeological site in Paphos,
unlike the ones in the UK the price to get in these places
in Cyprus were really cheap and the ruins dated back
thousands of years.
Picture of some of the remaining or restored arches from
whats left of the Saranta Kolones Byzantine castle in
Paphos, there were many really interesting things to
photograph and explore in Cyprus.
Looking through one of the arches at the Saranta Kolones
Archaeological site in Paphos towards the Mediterranean sea,
I would really like to go back to Cyprus and get some higher
quality photos.
Another photo of the Cyprus ruins of the Saranta Kolones
Byzantine castle and Paphos lighthouse in the distance,
somewhere in the middle is Joanne with her red balloon.
Despite the really nice looking weather it was actually just
after Christmas in Paphos, so yes that is a giant Santa in
this photo! Cyprus weather was much nicer weather than it
was in the UK at the time.
Another Paphos restaurant in this photo, there were so many
places to chill out and have some food, from Greek Cypriot
dishes to good old fashioned English breakfasts, many at
really great prices!
Joanne having fun posing for a photo on the nice sandy
Paphos beach, the beach furniture in the background was a
bit of a mess, but it was a long way out of season when we
went to Cyprus and there were not many on the beach.
A photo of a lonely looking palm tree in the middle of the
beach at Paphos, with some hotels in the background, unlike
Spain most the buildings in Cyprus were very low, no huge
ugly tower blocks.
Looking across the bay to the Lighthouse over by the Paphos
Archaeological centre, I would like to have gone up the
lighthouse to take photos of the views over Cyprus, but I
have heard it is very hard to get to the top of.
In one of the Paphos bars we spotted a couple of big
celebrities!!! Here is Posh and Beckham, Posh was looking
like she had put a bit more meat on her when in Cyprus than
when she was on TV! 8o)
Yolanda trying out some of the local cocktails at a bar in
Paphos, the drinks in Cyprus were very cheap and very high
in alcohol! A couple of those drinks and even I got drunk!
This is the way into the Tombs of the Kings, one of the many
historic sites around Cyprus, Paphos really is a place with
so much history, not just the beaches, clubs and shops that
some holiday destinations offer.
Looking through part of the ruins at the Tombs of the Kings
towards the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, we went to Cyprus
out of season and most of the attractions round Paphos we had
virtually to ourselves.
There is only one bad thing about the Tombs of the Kings in
Paphos, which is something they can't do much about and that
is the disabled access! The stairs are steep and falling
apart, but that is part of the charm of places like this in
Cyprus.
I love this stone in the Tombs of the Kings near Paphos, to
me it looks like the ruins of the head and shoulders of an
ancient Transformers style robot, not just blocks of stone
damaged by the Cyprus weather and time.
One of the ancient ruins that make up the Tombs of the Kings
in Paphos, Cyprus has a lot of interesting history to add an
interesting educational side to your visit.

Feedback on my photos is always very welcome and I do try to
reply, but do remember that these ones were taken a few
years back with a very basic digital camera!
