Photos of Meerkats at Drusillas Park Zoo by Dean Thorpe.
Here are some of the pictures from my huge collection of Meerkat photos. I have always loved the Meerkats and always take many more photos of them every time I go to Drusillas Park Zoo or any others Zoo's that have them. Meerkats are members of the Mongoose family.
Latin name: Suricata suricatta
Also known as: Sun Angels, Meercats
Location at Drusillas: Just after the Black and white ruffed Lemurs, opposite the Sulawesi Crested Macaques and before the Common Marmosets.

A slightly scruffy and almost lonely looking Meerkat, they don't normally look like that! Maybe he was having a really bad day, I know how bad I can look sometimes! |
A happier looking Meerkat at Drusillas, this one was very friendly and seemed to be almost posing for the cameras. The Meerkats are always very popular with everybody |
Meerkats work as a team and they all have their jobs, so while the others are foraging for food on the ground, they have at least one up high as a lookout for danger |
Another Meerkat looking out for danger and also the Drusillas Park keepers bringing them dinner or some tasty snacks, they have different barks for different warnings. |
Meerkats are very social animals and you can often see them snuggled up at Drusillas, even on nice warm days. I would not mind being in the middle of all of them |
As the Sussex weather is not always great and Meerkats are from Africa there are heat lamps that they can sit under when they need to warm up on cold days |
If you want to get a really close up look at the Meerkats at Drusillas Park then this dome is great, sadly its only really suitable for children, not for me! |
The Meerkats at Drusillas Park Zoo always seem very friendly and not at all bothered by the heards of noisy kids that they get walking past them every day |
This beautiful Meerkat was doing a little sunbathing on a really nice day, I love how laid back and relaxed it looked, just like a human relaxing by a pool. |
My last Drusillas Meerkat photo for this page of two Meerkats. Taken late in the day, they cast shadows nearly as big as them on the orange rock wall beside them. |
I hope you enjoyed seeing the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them
Constructive comments are always very welcome.
