Heavy plant at work on the beach at Hastings in East Sussex! No I don't mean an overweight daisy, I mean huge 16 litre engined Volvo A40E articulated haulers and other overgrown Tonka toy style vehicles working to repair the costal defences. Very impressive to watch, but would not want to be in the way of one. Hastings has had many problems in the past with flooding and hopefully this work is going to help, but only time will tell.

A Volvo A35D, sounds like these ONLY have a 12 litre engine, unlike the 16 litre A40Es that were down there! |
A Caterpillar D6N LGP moving the stones into position to hopefully help prevent the flooding problems that Hastings had. |
Three fully loaded articulated trucks heading to drop off their cargo and an excavator in the distance, all looking like part of a giants Tonka toy collection. |
A huge Bell B40D making its way back along the beach. I bet its not cheap to fill up the tanks on these beasts! Then again its not even cheap for my Fiesta these days. |
This Volvo A40E was off to start work or maybe returning to work from the special large car park style area set up for them on the Hastings Old Town beach. |
The huge articulated trucks are not much use empty, this Volvo EC460BLC excavator was working non stop to keep filling to continuous line of trucks supplied with their cargo. |
Another huge vehicle heading to be reloaded. Hastings Pier is in the background and this one was a Bell B40D Articulated Truck. |
The Volvo EC460BLC loading large quantities of stones into the back of one of the team of dumper trucks that were going back and forward along the beach. |
A Volvo A40E and Volvo A35D passing on the beach at Hastings. I bet they are great fun to drive, but I would not want to try parallel parking one! |
Large vehicles leave large tracks, but I quite liked the effect. There is a Caterpillar D6NLGP in the background and Hastings Pier. |
