These black and white pictures of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on sea have all been taken by me over the last few years, I have many colour ones too, I just think its post modern architecture really suits black and white. If you find yourself in the area of Bexhill in East Sussex, its well worth popping in for a visit and its very popular with photographers. Its a very interesting building and has amazing post modern architecture. It was designed by Eric Mendelsohn and Serge Chermayeff back in 1934 for the Earl De La Warr. Its an unusual building as I think the stairwells are the most beautiful parts!
The De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill is used for many stage shows, art exhibitions, has a nice cafe and shop.
I have been told officially that the building is called the De La Warr Pavilion with the Warr being pronounced Where, not War as a lot of locals (me included) and tourists always seem to call it!

This is the beautiful spiral staircase at the De La Warr Pavilion, this photo won me the Rother Homes Photographer of the Year competition for 2006. |

A black and white photo of the glass tower on the seafront side of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, inside the glass tower is the spiral staircase. |

A picture looking through the ground floor of the pavilion from the main doors towards the spiral stairs with many reflections on the floor and the glass doors |

The middle floor of the spiral staircase in the glass tower, right next to the cafe where you can sit out on the balcony and enjoy your food and drink |

A great perspective shot of more stairs, these one going down from the rooftop area to the balcony outside the cafe, I just like the way it looks, especially in black and white |

A close up photo of the glass tower at night with the light glowing from within the middle of the spiral staircase, there are also some great shadows |

The sign on the front (Bexhill side) of the De La Warr Pavilion, behind those glass doors is the theatre part of the De La Warr Pavilion, a place for many great shows |

The strange thing about this bit is that they seem to spend 364 days a year telling off anybody anybody that goes on this bit with a bmx or skateboard, then one day a year they cover it in ramps for bmxs and skateboards! |

This black and white photo is of the stairs on the front of the building, not as nice as the spiral staircase, but still very interesting and looks good with all the windows |

Looking up from the bottom of the spiral staircase in this photo, I like the lights and reflective surfaces in between such post modern looking architecture |

The De La Warr pavilion is even interesting to photograph when closed, I really liked these chairs and the shadows they create, this was taken through the window of the glass tower |

A few years ago they shut the De La Warr Pavilion down to give it a much needed face lift, this was taken during that time and show the really bad condition the walls were in |

These photos of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill are used here purely for non profit entertainment purposes, I have no connection with the De La Warr Pavilion (So no I can't get you cheap tickets or tell you what time shows are on!)
