This is a list of mostly medical jargon that has been created to help people understand all the weird things doctors and nurses seem to say. There is nothing worse than somebody telling you things like:
"The local PCT advice the CPA when passing ADHD clients with PTSD to CPN's from the CMHT."
and sitting there thinking what the hell did they just say! Trust me, I have been there myself many times and hate that feeling. Things do seem to be improving and they are starting to use more plain English, but should help give everybody a little helping hand. There are probably a lot of important ones that are missing from this guide, if you think of any, please send them and help keep the list as up to date as possible. All of these are compiled from many information sources, both on the internet and paper based. I have included a number of useful non medical terms too.

A measurement index derived from a modification of standard life-table procedures and designed to take account of the quality as well as the duration of survival. This index can be used in assessing the outcome of health care procedures or services.

Quasi Randomisation
In a randomised controlled trial this is a method of allocating patients to treatment group that is open to systematic bias as all patients do not have an equal chance of being in one group or the other.
