How long has this site been running?

The original version called Psyonic Dreams was created way back in September 2000, over 11 years ago!

It was renamed Aspex Design in March 2003, as it was slightly easier to spell and I thought it sounded more professional!

Am I getting rich from this site?

I make just enough to keep the site running and pay for basic equipment and software that I need to keep it running, no actual profit at all! Donations are always very welcome!

Why did I create the site?

I have always been mad about computers and learning how to create things with them, so as soon as I started exploring the internet I wanted to create my own web site. I thought it would be easy, so I did what many did back then and created a basic site using Frontpage, luckily I showed it to some people who knew a lot more about creating web sites than me and they said they liked the look of the site, but that I should look at the HTML (HyperText Markup Language) code that front page automatically created and when I did even I could see that it was bloated, over complicated crap! So I decided to learn to write the HTML code myself, now I would not create a site any other way!

Software used to create and update this site

Operating Systems:

Windows XP
Linux Mint (My current OS of choice!)

Gedit (Linux)
HTML-Kit (Windows)

Image Editing and graphic design:

GIMP Image Editor (Linux) / Paint Shop Pro (Windows)

FTP Software:

FileZilla (Linux)
Core FTP (Windows)

Site Testing:

Firefox (Linux and Windows versions)
Chrome (Linux and Windows versions)
Internet Explorer (Windows)
Opera (Java version on phone)

Why the change over to Linux?

My little old Eee PC Netbook A few years ago I got myself one of those little Asus Eee PC's and it came with Xandros Linux installed, I was expecting to hate it and have to install Windows on it, but instead I liked Xandros. I did find Xandros a little limited, so I installed Ubuntu Linux on it instead and it ran very nicely. The Asus Eee PC (A 4g Surf) only had a little 7inch screen, but with my health problems I do most of my work laying on the bed, so its ideal for me. These days I am now using a slightly bigger Packard Bell Dot S2, which came with Windows 7, but that was wiped off within 24 hours, I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it and it ran so much better and more recently changed to Linux Mint! I do still use mostly Windows on my desktop, but that is only really for a few bit of software I can't get to run on Linux (yet!).

What are the sites requirements?

A Computer of some sort is recommended, but it is viewable on some phones too! A connection to the internet is pretty handy, but viewing from a CD or thumb drive is possible! Power to run the computer (Hamster wheel with some sort of alternator attached may be enough?).

To run properly you DO need Javascript and CSS enabled, it WILL run without them and it will be usable, but it uses them for the layout and accessibility, so it won't look right if you have them switched off.

Fully tested with three main browsers (Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer) on both Linux and Windows, plus also tested on a mobile phone with Opera. If you have any problems accessing the site, please tell me!

It should run perfectly at most common screen resolutions, unlike a lot of sites this one stretches so you don't get the huge blank bits down the sides that some sites have or have to spend half your life scrolling left and right to read it all.

How do I recommend people view the site?

Eyes work best! Seriously though if any blind people have visited my site then I would be very interested in hearing how they found the experience and what software they use to read the site?

As for browsers Firefox is the one I use, I do test on Chrome, Internet Explorer and Opera, but Firefox is my favourite and I would recommend it to everybody! Firefox is totally free. A few years back most people thought that as Internet Explorer was on their computer that it was the only choice, now according to Wikipedia (September 2011)

Internet Explorer (38.9%)
Firefox (25.0%)
Google Chrome (20.9%)
Safari (8.0%)
Opera (2.7%)
Mobile browsers (6.7%)

The gap between them is closing all the time!

Future plans for the site?

Loads more photo pages.

Loads more free graphics.

Loads more poems.

Loads more tutorials.

Recode the entire site to work better, faster and improve the visitors experience while they are on my site.

That all means loads more work for me!!! 8o(
