For those are new to internet website web design awards, you just apply to one of the internet sites and your site will be rated using categories such as design, content, compatibility, loading times etc. Some sites award you gold, silver or bronze, but others have their own systems including merit and excellence. Some are honest places who want give you recognition for the hard work people put into the design and quality of their sites and you should always support these, but some places are just trying to get a free link on your site. Its up to you to work out which is which and make up your mind if you want to put the award on your site, which will also support their site. Most sites require the award to be linked to their internet sites, but not all do. So if you think your site is one of the best on the internet, apply for a few and see what happens. Some accept just professional business sites, some only accept home made homepages, some only design or photography related websites, some support sites etc. Most have their own list of criteria, which sometimes can be a little strict, so watch out! The last thing I will say is not to take it too seriously, ANY web site from the worst pile of junk to something really great can be a winning web site if you apply to the right (or wrong) places, so it really does not mean much, just a nice bit of fun.
